Replacement Hut Update

As 2018 comes to an end we can look back on an extremely busy and successful year for
the Group. Our vision of replacing our dilapidated Hut with a new Scout Community Centre
in Stoke Bishop has stepped that bit closer to becoming a reality.

We thought you might like to read a short summary of some of the things we have achieved
over the past 12 months, the events we have run, the community projects we have been
involved in and to discover who have been some of our larger donors.

Some of our key achievements include:

  • Secured our future on our current site off Kewstoke Road with the completion of a 35
year lease from Bristol City Council
  • Increased our total fundraising to over £107,000.
  • Completed technical land surveys of the site
  • Instructed an architect to design our new Centre
  • Recruited new parents to our Executive and Fundraising Committees

We have been involved with or run our own Group Events as follows:

  • Monthly Cubbaccino Café
  • BS9 Arts Trail
  • Fundraising Spectacular
  • Plant Sale
  • Halloween Fundraiser
  • St Mary’s Winter Warmer
  • Quiz & Curry Night
  • Christmas Tree Sale

Lots of Community Engagement including:

  • Attending Church Parades at St Mary’s Church
  • Playing Bingo with residents at Druid Stoke Nursing Home
  • Assisting at the Westbury-on-Trym Christmas Fayre
  • Supporting local businesses as suppliers to our events
  • Cleaning up the River Trym
  • Giving talks to local community groups
  • Meetings with trustees of Stoke Bishop Village Hall and St Mary’s Church
  • Litter picking on the banks of the Avon Gorge

Fundraising

We cannot thank enough all those parents, local residents, businesses and funders who
have supported us this year, whether by purchasing a Christmas tree, buying a raffle ticket
or donating money towards our fundraising efforts. It is hugely appreciated. Thank you. A
few of our larger funders this year have included:

  • The Rank Foundation
  • Motus Recruitment
  • Moto in the Community
  • EasyFundraising
  • Intel Corporation Employee Volunteer Matching Scheme
  • Sainsburys
  • Waitrose Community Fund
  • Coop Community Fund
  • The Lalonde Trust

And Finally……..

We still have lots to do and plans are already underway for next year which we will tell you
about in early 2019. In the meantime on behalf of the Trustees and Executive Committee of
the 43 rd Bristol Scout Group we wish you a very Merry Christmas.
